Karratha Team Calls ALTO Home

Fast-growing Belmont-based surveying services company Land Surveys has joined forces with Formas to deliver new homes for its team on the ground in Karratha to live in.
Formas has installed three 160m² ALTO Quad homes on three blocks owned by the company in the Baynton West residential estate.
Land Surveys’ founder and Managing Director, Peter Rullo, says the group secured the land in a LandCorp ballot for businesses with a base in Karratha about a year ago as a way of giving staff a permanent place to stay in the booming city.
“We have been in Karratha for about five years and have had an office there for about two years and, until now, our team members – some of whom are permanent residents and some who are on a fly in, fly out roster – have been in and out of motel rooms,” he explains.
“Not only is it difficult to keep finding rooms with the severe accommodation shortage constantly affecting Karratha, but that kind of living is also less flexible so I was looking for another option.”
The ALTO Quad homes feature two wings, each with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, creating a six bedroom four bathroom home which is linked by a kitchen area.
“Motel rooms don’t offer cooking facilities or the other benefits of shared living like having privacy but also the company of workmates, so our team is pretty excited about it,” says Peter, who is himself a qualified surveyor.
“Setting up these Formas homes allows our guys to have a better all-round living experience and the modern, apartment-like fit-out of the ALTO is much nicer than a motel room.”
Peter says the affordability and speed of getting a Formas home in the ground attracted him to the option.
“We have had strong growth in Karratha and knew there was a lot more on the way so I was very keen to sort out a quick solution to our housing issue,” he says.
“As we also work in surrounding areas including Port Hedland and Newman and have set up shop in Queensland recently as well, I also like that I have the option to relocate the Formas homes at a later date if I want to.”
Formas’ Gereal Manager, John Longhurst, expects the completion of these homes, combined with the Formas display home opening in Baynton West, to pave the way for a busy year for the company in the region.
“This was a full turnkey project and it looks fantastic,” he says.
“As the number of ALTO homes increase in the Karratha area, we are getting more and more calls from residents and companies who realise the benefits and lifestyle opportunities that modern modular housing is delivering.”
